Plateaus
I'm sure this subject has been beaten to death and I just missed it being new, but I wanted to ask about plateaus here for all you 6+ monthers rather than on the newbie board for october patients.
I lost a tremendous amount of weight in the first post-op week (15 lbs of the 110 I want to loose) and then 4 over the last 3 weeks. I did have problems getting in enough food the last week of that, because of the stricture. I'm exercising four times a week (albeit at half the speed i was pre-surgery, and no strength training yet), sticking to the menu strictly, getting between 50-60 g protein a day and more than 50oz water, but nothings' moving.
The diseased part of my mind says "you watch, you'll be the one person for whom this doesn't work" and I know that's untrue, but boy, hearing everyone talk about the weight flying off is disconcerting.
Anyone else have this happen? Guess I didn't expect the plateau so soon. I wanted to "strike while the iron was hot", when you're supposed to have the most loss at once, and don't think I'm doing anything wrong. Any thoughts ffrom all those farther out appreciated.

we all feel like we are the only one who wont lose the weight/ I had mine in July and i go through this all the time. Then you get on the scale and it starts going down. Your iron is still hot believe me. I have lost slower then most but I hit the 100s today. Barely. I have lost 69 lbs and finally I can tell. Good luck and dont worry we all go through the lulls. Hi Lisa, I feel your pain. I felt the same way the first few months. You will hear this over and over but your body is adjusting. It will take time. I seem to lose weight one week and the next week I lose nothing. You will not fail. It does work. But the surgery is only a tool to accomplish your goals. Keep doing what you are doing and you will see success. Keep up the great work. I am 7 months out and down 113. It will happen for you too.
Hi Lisa!
It is very discouraging to hit that plateau! Oh my gosh, do we all know that or what??? Can I have an Amen!!??
Hang in there! It is completely normal! Your body has to figure out what its doing from time to time, it kinda takes a breather then picks right back up. You are doing everything right. You can bump your protein up that will help too, just increase your fluids and yes, you need some healthy carbs to work those proteins! But for the most part you have the diet and the exercise down. It will come! My first plateau was for 3 weeks and I thought I was gonna DIE!! I was not a nice person either!!! But, lo and behold it started up again and went with a vengance!
Just so you know I am 16 months post op. I have maintained my weight range for the past 4 months or so. It goes up and down a pound or two, but I am where I am going to be. Now, it's just a matter of skin...ok, another story for another day!
At anyrate, hang in my friend! It does get better! Promise! We all have been there and can say "I know how you feel" and mean it!
Take care!
Valerie
Thank you, everybody! Very encouraging to hear I didn't hit the plateau too soon. I'm all set for this to be a 12-18 month event (the loss) ending up with a lifetime commitment (the maintenance), and didn't think I'd get so discouraged at something as trivial as the number on a scale. I lost almost 70 pounds getting ready for the surgery and plateaus didn't bother me at all then...go figure!
Your support and responses mean a lot to me. Thanks for taking the time, everyone!
