My "uh oh" moment!
Yesterday I had my pre-ops at the Deaconess and got the scare of my life when the admissions clerk told me that my insurance was not correct in the system. Scared the life out of me! While I was getting my tests done, this nice lady came looking for me to tell me that she had it all straightened out and everything was okay. Whew! I left the hospital, hadn't eaten my liquid diet before going and at 2:30pm I was starving, or so I thought. I thought I have to have some food!!! I headed straight for my favorite hole in the wall that has the best roast beef known to man and whatcha know? The owner who I have known for ages met me as I was walking in, noticed the hospital ID on my wrist, inquired about it, I told her and she said...."honey, you want meat?" Must have been the soul of my mother shaking my head side to side instead of up and down the way I planned! I said yes but I can only have liquids!! She gave me a huge bowl of chicken noodle broth, and told me to come and see her anytime that I needed more. Bless her heart! It was the best broth that I have eaten since I began liquid diet hell. Of course like the good greek mother that she is, she set with me and asked about a million questions, and finally she said, "you don't let your doctor make you to skinny, it took me years to fatten you up!" She sent me home with enough broth to last a month! It was just what I needed, a mother's encouragement!
Demetrio's on Queen City Avenue in Westwood. I think that they have another location but I'm not sure of the location. As I was leaving there yesterday, she told me to come in when I could have beef again and she would give me "little bit". The servings are huge! Sundays were the days a bunch of us who work on Sundays would head for dinner. Its a very homey place and the people are always so nice!
