? for alumni WLS patients
Karie you look incredible in only 11 mos. I am 19 mos post and I think I stopped at 17 or 18 mos. I had a long plateau, around 2+ mos around my 1 year mark and then dropped 10 lbs out of nowhere. Then I plateaued again and then dropped 5 lbs. All in all I thought I was finished losing around 12 mos and by 18 mos I had dropped 25 more. I surpassed my goal weight and now have stabilized.
Good luck!
Karie:
I am not a WLS alumni but I do perform the operation and when I saw the postings from Jack and Steve I couldn't resist posting. Good evening gentlemen.
The average is 12 - 18 months and yes it does vary. Men tend to lose a little more and it also depends on what your starting weight is and the finer details of how your diet has changed over the last year if at all, as well as the incorporation of a excercise routine. You have a great surgeon and I have nothing but respect for Dr. Needleman.
Sincerely,

Hey Karie! Val here! How are ya girlfriend???
I think I finally stopped "actively" losing at around 12 months give or take. I thought I had finished losing around 10 months, then I did the same thing where I had lost 100 pounds, was thrilled to have done that then, wham the next couple of months I just dropped 23 more.
I fluctuate within a 5 pound variance. My lowest weigh in was 145 and my highest now is 150. It also does depend on my activity level. When I am consistent with my workouts, I stay around the 145, when I am not it goes back up to around the 150 mark. I am sure most of that is water, because when I kick up my workouts, it has a diuretic effect (fancy for saying pi** like a race horse )
Plus, weight training adds muscle mass which we all know is more dense than fat, hence the increase in weight decrease in inches...yadda yadda....
Then there's the skin issues...some of that leftover weight that I want to get rid of is SKIN EW!! I think I could drop about 10 to 15 pounds of skin with my tt and mastopexy. Which I will have to pay for (another story for another day!)
But, everyone is different, and it does depend on how much you exercise, and how much excessive skin you have. I would venture to say that by the time you reach 18 months out max, you are probably going to have utilitzed your tool as far as the weight loss goes. The rest will come with exercise, and skin removal.
Ok, that was long winded huh?
