Did you see Oprah today?
Ahhh Cathy...Insurances are a pain in the ass! I was very lucky and my insurance is covering my surgery. I had already looked into the possibility of borrowing from my retirement if I had to. My sister says I can now use it to have the skin under my neck removed when I lose some of this weight. No disrepect to my sister, but the thought of a scapel that close to my throat makes me feel to shaky. Hang in there. You'll find a way!
Don't forget to figure in the cost of ongoing followup. The Lap Band requires anywhere from 2-3 years of follow up and adjustments. 10% of patients don't tolerate the pure restriction and have the band removed. If you have insurance that will pay for a procedure they will also pay for complications, heaven forbid, if they occur. I'm not saying don't do it but if you have to cash in retirement make sure you know the longterm costs may not be over in a year and if they won't pay for the initial procedure they will unlikely pay for any additional procedures related to it.
Good Luck
