1 week out blues - long
Hello again and thank you for responses re: gas and pain. I read a lot before my surgery about how hard the first months would be hard, the first three or four weeks pretty awful. I also read from some folks that there can be a certain degree of depression.
Well, here it comes...I don't feel as awful as many have described, I'm just sore and achy from only being able to sit two places comfortably. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired (to borrow from AA), feeling kind of blue and isolated. Food doesn't make me nauseous, but I have this kind of low level "food-ICK!" feeling (not helped by the scrumptious pureed meats and milk products). It's hard to focus on the good reasons I did this - to remember that in 6 months I"ll be off blood pressure meds, I'll be on my way to being able to better manage my health for a lifetime - to "level the playing field" and be at a place where I have all the tools I need to be at a healthy weight for life.
Mostly I feel tired, tired, tired, and rather disgusted by food in general. I'm bored but my low level of energy keeps me from doing what I'd typically do in these times, gardening, home improvement, reading. I'm having trouble even concentrating.
What did you all do when you hit this wall (if you hit it)? What pureed foods did you use to get through these first weeks? Any suggestions much appreciated.
(I should mention that I am extraordinarily grateful my surgery went well and that I have it better than most do...just trying to manage my way through it)
Lisa......You need to give your body time. This surgery is a major life changing event. You have just came out of surgery and it does take time to get into the grove things again...some it takes 4-6 weeks. Don't rush yourself into healing. When I had my surgery almost a year ago I could not walk at the time b/c I had foot surgery two weeks prior to my WLS I had my foot operated on and was wheel chair bound and I was going stir crazy...not to mention it was Christmas (Holiday time).
I know what you mean with the ick...of food. I can rmembering living off of a lick of peanut butter and instant mash potatoes...my favorite was sugar free popsicles! You will be so amazed with yourself in the next few weeks when the scales are moving. It will just blow your mind and you wait and see you will get that SPARK back.
Hang in there.....I know its hard but you soon begin to see and feel the difference.
WIshing you the best,

Can you puree Wendy's chili? That was good for a lot of people. I used Skyline myself.
I do protein shakes and they really helped me. Protein increases energy and will help with blues.
Also if you can try going for a short walk increasing every day. Start with a few steps if you have to.
It does take time and it will, get better.
Finally by posting you have started to pay it forward. Continure to do that. It helps to get it out and it might help some other people.
Good luck to you
