Gas post surgery
Hello - had my lap RNY surgery on Friday morning, home now. Food is going OK, but I still have some significant muscle pain in the primary incision point, and my belly still feels bloated from the gas. Doc said this is to be expected - my question to you all, how long was your abdomen sore around the incision points? I'm taking the percocet regularly, and moving a lot, went for a walk every day, getting up and down, etc. I tried sleeping in my bed last night but woke up 4 hours after I went to sleep YOWZA the pain. Not coincidentally, was at the point I needed to take more pain meds.
What did you guys experience? Did you take an Gas-Ex? I'll call the surgeon's office for an ok first.
All normal! Everyone's pain threshold is different. I was on pain meds about a week. My husband barely took any. Made me look like a weenie! I couldn't sleep in my own bed for about 4 days or so.
It should be fine for you to take OTC for gas. Something chewable with simethicone. Check with your doc, but I am sure it will be fine. Chew one up with each meal. It does get better!
I had a hard time passing gas at first. My mom said that's a first...Val can't fart. OMG!!!! I would have paid someone to be able to get that stuff out! But, I am happy to report the gas factory is churning out just fine these days!
I was somewhat just uncomfortable for about 2 weeks total. The last thing to go away was the tugging sensation under my largest incision which on my right side near my rib area.
Hope this helps you out! Hang in, it does get better!

Lisa,
I had Lap gastric banding at OSU on 10/21/04 and have felt great since 10/24/04.
My biggest fear before surgery was all of the problems I read about with gas pain and discomfort. So I read everything I could on the internet about gas and took heed. Thankfully, I have had no problems with gas, so you may want to check out the internet.
I do know walking helps. I walk 2 miles daily. I live close to you so if you are interested, e-mail me.
Take care,
Sheila
