? about St. Vincents
When I had my surgery done through CCBS at St. Vincents in May I was told that my weight had to be within 10lbs of my initial weigh-in. I was weighed again at my PATs (pre admission testing) and fortunately had not gained any weight. I was told at the PATs that I had to continue to maintain my weight until my surgery date (about 3 weeks later) and that if I was over that weight on my day of surgery my surgery would be cancelled. HOWEVER on the day of my surgery I was never weighed by anyone. There was a scale in the bathroom where I changed into a gown and I weighed myself, but none of the staff ever asked me to step on a scale. I have a friend who just got approved through CCBS and is wondering how picky they are about it. I don't know if my experience was typical or if I just slipped through the cracks. Did anyone else get weighed on the day of surgery? Or do they just try to scare you into submission in the PATs so you don't over eat? Also that whole 'must be within 10lbs' thing, is that from the initial consult to the PATs, or from the PATs to the surgery date? or perhaps even from the initial consult date to the surgery date? My friend has been waiting FOREVER for insurance approval and is worried that she might have already gained more than 10lbs. I wonder if they give special consideration to people who have had to wait longer than others?
Thanks in advance for your input!

HEY JEN
I HAD MY SURGERY AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS OF CLEVELAND,MY SURGEON TOLD ME THAT I COULD NOT GAIN NOT EVEN 1LB OR THEY WOULD NOT DO THE SURGERY,THEY TELL ALL THE PATIENTS IN THE PROGRAM THE SAME THING,EVEN THOUGH IT IS 3 SURGEONS IN THE PRACTICE THEY ALL FOLLOW THE SAME PROTOCAL,AND ON MY DAY OF SURGERY RIGHT AFTER I CHANGED INTO THAT LOVELY HOSPITAL GOWN THEY MADE ME GET ON THE SCALE,THANK GOD I DIDN'T GAIN ANY,AS A MATTER OF FACT I WAS SO SCARED TO GAIN I ENDED UP LOOSING 11LBS BY THE DAY OF SURGERY,SO YOU NEVER KNOW.

Hi Ebony! I had surgery at University Hospital as well. The bowel prep took
about 5 more pounds off me and then they proceeded to pump 7 pounds back on me through the IV. I was on a low carb program right up to surgery and I lost 51 pounds from my initial consult to surgery day. I was home free! Alice
jen, i had surgery at st vincents in august they told me to lose 10 at initial consult and when i went to pats i only lost 3 but i thought they meant by surgery date and i was waiting so i wouldn't gain it back, but i did lose it by surgery but i was not weighed on surgery date as a matter of fact i was not weighed in the hospital period , so tell her to try to lose it for pat's at leasrt if she does not the nurse will call and tell you to make sure youn have lost it by the date. st v's is great !!!! barb
