Hey everyone!!!! I am new at this and have a couple of questions. My preop is scheduled for November 15th, 2004, and my surgery is on December 6th, 2004. I am already watching what I am eating, and drinking tons of water and Propel. I have been exercising 6 days a week religiously, and trying to prepare for this big journey. I am having the lap RNY procedure done. Can anyone who has had it done give me any tips????? Do you have a drain in your stomach after surgery?????? I didnt see anything in the seminar about that, and I forgot to ask. Thanks everyone, you guys are great.

Hi Chrishelle I am just over 2 weeks out I had a drain on my left side.I have seen some post where doctors do not use them so I guess it really depends on the surgeon

Hi Chrishelle! I am almost 3 wks postop-lap rny. As of tonite I am down 20 lbs. I am feeling good for the most part. It will be really important to get your fluids in, so the practice right now is great! The only exercise I am allowed to do right now is walk-everyday for increasing amts. of time. I was on full liquids for the first 10 days and now pureed for 2 wks but everyone's program is different. Just follow your homegoing instructions and you'll be fine! Have you found a protein drink yet? You'll be using this everyday to keep your protein intake balanced. No heavy lifting. Vitamins everyday! I have 5 little incisions on my abdomen with bandaid coverings. Yes, I had a drain which was removed on day 3-before I went home. It was on my belly-right below the boobs! Only a second of discomfort when it comes out! Pace yourself when at home-balance activity with rest. Take care-hope you have a smooth surgery and recovery! Jan

Dr.Curry leaves them in for 1 week. Its no big deal though. I hear its a great thing to have in to reduce infection. Who is doing your surgery? Lots of prayers and love.Cindy -53 July 9./04

Hi Chrishelle, I wish you well! I'm 4 weeks post op and I awoke with 2 drains. One on each side. I still have the larger G-tube till next Monday. The JP drain was removed at my post op visit at two weeks. I hadn't read anything about G-tubes so I was shocked. I'm writing you so you won't be... I believe it's different with different surgeons and also depends on the patient so don't let that worry you! Unfortunately, my insurance wouldn't cover a lap so I had an open. I hear it's much easier on you to have the lap! You're in my thoughts and prayers. Take care and soon you'll be on the losers side! God Bless! Hugs, Kathy
