My surgery is in 2 weeks with Dr. Fallang in Dayton. I am starting to get a little nervose. I will say anyting I call the doctors office, the nurses are wonderful with answering my questions and I never feel rushed. I have my pre-surgery consult next week. I have experienced a couple of panic attacks, once out of a dead sleep and it always seems to be about me waking up with that tube down my throat. Is this normal? People keep telling me to "Better eat now, you won't get to anymore soon". Thanks! ;)

Julie, Surgery in just two weeks? That is great. Congratulations. I don't even have a surgery date yet, but I worry about the ET tube, as well. One friend said they must have taken hers out while she was still asleep - another says she woke up while they were removing it. My only concern is if they have to keep mine in longer than usual for some reason. I would hate for it to be in once I'm awake and aware. I'm rather claustrophobic and the thought of the tube in there brings out those feelings. However, most people that are post-op say this was not even an issue, they just weren't even aware it was in because they were still under the effects of the anesthesia. Maybe you could ask your doctor to give you something for anxiety while the tube is in. Talk your fears over with him, he will likely be able to reassure you. Nancy

I had surgery July 9. I was also afraid of the tube. You are so out of it you wont care. I am sure Dr,Curry made sure it was out while I was sleeping. I dont remember a thing. Not even how I got to my room and put on the other bed. I was a goner for 2 whole dys and I loved it. Dont worry. You will not know a thing,I can eat what I want but I dont want much. You wont starve or even want anything. Its very wierd after what we are used to doing.48lbs down lots of luck, its easy I had a lap, Cindy

Julie... wow it will be here before you know it. It is just a shame it takes such a long process to get, but I am sure the wait is worth it. I can't wait to be the one saying I have a date. I will be keeping you in my prayers. Congrats.... Julie H

hi jullie, i have 2weeks and 1day. my surgery is oct 12 and i am nervous also. my brother in law had the surgery a year ago and he has always made the statement " wish i had done it sooner". i have been eating some of the things i feel i will miss, but you know what, i am tired of eating. i want to get the procedure over with so i can start dropping the weight. i know things will go fine for you as i feel they will go with me. good luck and think how this will change your life forever. eric

Hi Julie, I have the same date you have. I'm having my done by Dr. Curry in Cincinnati. Things have been so hectic here at home, I've not had much of a chance to even think about it or panic-YET! I'm sure before its all over and as the date gets closer, I'm going to go through a bunch of emotions. I guess I keep trying to put it into perspective and that is if I don't do this, the alternative with my weight and health would be worse than going through the surgery itself. I just am NOT a doctor or hospital person-it takes a lot for me to even see my PCP and I avoid doctors and hospitals at all costs. This surgery will be a true test of my ability to cope in those areas! Beth

How exciting for you. You'll be a butterfly before you know it! When you feel those panic attacks take a deep breath. I am scheduled for December and I plan to have a few of the things I love the most before I have it, but I have worked so hard and taken off appx 50# in the last year so I have decided to make this a change now rather than waiting until the day of. I think it will be much easier to change my habits if I start now. Don't worry about the tube. They usually have it out before you realize it was ever in. Hugs and best wishes to you, Jaimee
