Disappointment, would like prayers
I have been going through alot today. My surgery was scheduled for 9/29/04. Yesterday it was cancelled indefinitely. It had finally been approved after being denied. I had to do a procedure calld a EGD and they found stomach polyps, a bunch of them, therefore no surgery. I really have no knowledge about these except that he called it polyp syndrome and the odds are they are hyperpla..something. I cried all day. So close....
Tanya, I can't even imagine how heartbroken you must be. This is such a long, frustrating journey and to get so close and then have the rug yanked out from under you has to really hurt. I am so very sorry.
Will they have to remove these polyps? I think sometimes polyps can turn cancerous, if they don't find them. I know it is too painful to be thankful for this right now, but maybe if you had not been preparing for this surgery, they would not have found this condition.
What made them do that test in the first place? That is not something normally done pre-op, is it? Did you have some symptoms, or did they suspect something?
I hope you will find some peace and that this will somehow turn out to be a blessing in some way. Is there a chance you can have surgery once this is treated or removed or whatever? Maybe it's just a delay?
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and hope that you get better news somewhere down the road. Until then, we are all here for you.
Nancy
In my upper GI test, (i have GERD), they noticed some bumps, so they wanted to see what it was. I did this 2 weeks in a row. They took some of the polyps each time. I was given no notice that anything turned out positive. They are just there. They removed a bunch already but there are more. I have no idea if I will ever be able to have the surgery. I had no symtoms such as stomach problems. I know several years ago my gallbladder was removed, no symptoms, they saw it during a MRI. When removed they said it was terribly scarred. I do have a very high tolerance to pain... I don't know.
Tanya,
I don't know if what you are dealing with is the same thing or not, but I read a post from someone on here a while back about something similar. They couldn't have RNY because it seals off the old stomach and prevents a person from being scoped if the possibility of stomach cancer were there. They did say, however, that they could have a DS or Lap Band because it still allows access to the original stomach. I don't know if this would be a possibility in your situation or not. I am not a medical doctor and have no experience to make such a judgement. I just thought this was something you could ask your doctor about. If your situation is the same as the other poster's it might be an alternative for you. It never hurts to ask. I am very sorry this is happening to you. I know you must be feeling very sad and discouraged. However, it sounds like you have a cautious doctor who has your best interest at heart. Keep your chin up. You never know, it might be something simple. God Bless.
Hugs,
Jaimee
