PJ EVERSON UPDATE........PRAYERS NEEDED
Good morning AMOS Family,
I hope this post finds you all doing well. Good luck to those having surgery this upcoming week. And for those of you awaiting a surgery date, I hope you find out some good news soon.
I am writing because a lovely woman here in Cincinnati, Ohio, really needs our support.
Here is a little rundown for you:
Her name is Patricia "PJ" Everson.
Her open RNY was done on September 2nd. I was there in person for her surgery.
When I went to visit her after surgery, I noticed the hopsital had put her IV in her thumb. I said "Wow, I have never seen that before".
She spent a little extra time in the hospital because of some breathing issues. But otherwise, the surgery went well.
She went home, after about a week in the hospital. She than started noticing her thumb/hand turning colors, and was very sore and swollen.
She called her surgeon, who is an awesome guy here in Ohio. He told her to go to ER.
They admitted her right away. The doctor lanced it, and sent in a hand specialist to see her. She started receiving whirlpool treatments on it. It is now doing so much better. The discoloration (black and purple), is now gone.
We thought everything was looking up for her. Until, she got up to go potty. Her open incision than opened up about an inch, and than this fluid shot out across the room. Her surgeon was than contacted immediately.
On another occassion, she was eating some pink yogurt. The nurse and PJ noticed that when she ate it, it was than dripping on the floor when she got up to go to the bathroom. During another time up, the water she drank started running onto the floor, and down her belly.
Tests were ran, and her doctor acted on this right away. It was discovered she had a leak/fistula (sp).
She is now just allowed to take water, ice or sf popsicles by mouth. Everything else is going through her pic-line.
After this weekend, she will be going to a nursing home for two weeks. This is to allow some healing to go on.
Than after the two weeks, she will go back to the hospital, where her surgeon will use glue to seal up the fistula. Than she will probably go back to a nursing home for two more weeks.
She isn't real mobile due to her legs.
I am hoping that everyone here will show support for my dear friend.
Thank you for your support,
Sandy Pierce

Thanks for the update. She is truly in my prayers.
I have started IV's in thumbs, upper arms, and feet. Sometimes people are just not easily accessed. MO patients have so much "padding" around vessels that it is hard to palpate them. Not to mention being dehrydated prior to surgery. You just clamp down.
Unfortunately and IV is an open portal to infection just like any other wound, and she may have put her hand to her mouth, or other places that can harbor different bacterias. Plus that is just a rough area. I don't automatically do hand IV's. They hurt. Plus the vessels are small and tend to become phlebitic easy.
I will keep her in my prayers and thoughts every day! I think the power of prayer is an amazing tool. I see it work miracles every day.

Sandy, I will most certainly pray for PJ. I know God will be with her. I will be going to church tomorrow and I will ask the church to put her on the prayer chain. We have a lot of wonderful praying people and God has answered so many of our prayers. I know He will be with PJ too.
