Protein Bars -- Suggestions?
I tried my first protein bar today -- EAS Cookies and Cream -- and aaaack! I had heard a lot of good things about the EAS bars, so tried one of these first. But since my surgery, I find I'm extremely over-sensitive to the taste of artificial sweetener and it left a terrible aftertaste in my mouth after just one bite. Can anyone suggest any other bars to try? Thanks!
Hi Diana:
Protein bars didn't sit well with me at first, but now..nearly 5 months out, they are great. I've found two brands I really like, a group called, Detour, Uturn, Oneway, all traffic signs..they are 170 calories and 15 g protein..I also like several of the Zone bars, the double chocolate and choc peanutbutter..about 200-220 calories and 15-18 g protein. The zone bars have like rice crispys in them..the Detour etc taste like candy bars..The others are just yuck to me..Oh, I get them at walmart. Hope this helps.

Hi Diana
I have a hard time with a lot of the protien bars now, can't wait to see how I do after surgery I've been test-tasting lots of different ways to get protein and found one kind that I love! They are the All in One bars from Dexatrim. They have lemon bar crisp, chocolate toffee crunch and white chocolate raspberry. 180 calories, 5g fat, 180g sodium, 21g total carbs (5g dietary fiber and 1g sugar), and 15g protein. They really taste good!
Good luck on your search!
Pam
Diana, If you don't have to don't go there with the bars until your at goal if you can. They have been known to make some of us crave and some as the Uturns and Oneways are high in sugars. I am at goal and will eat a protein bar for a snack only on a trip if hubby won't stop or a mid-day meal if I'm doing a ton of running. I eat the Adkins Smores or Almond brownie bars. I buy them at Sam's by the whole box so they last me a while. Good luck on what ever you decide to do. Making choices in this journey seems to be hit and miss. I'm sure you'll make the right decision for you and that's what matters. Good luck..
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this! I noticed the high sugar content on the OneWay, Detour bars too. I have been a bit concerned that they could trigger craving, but so far nothing tastes good enough that I can ever imagine craving it! I know it's something I'll have to watch closely though. I'm getting ready to go back to work, and mainly wanted the protein bars to keep on hand as a snack if I can't get to the cafeteria and am running low on protein. Thanks again!
