Ulcer Questions......
Hello All!
I am a little over 3 weeks post-op now (and down 35 lbs ) and thought I had a virus. I've had nausea to the point that I can't take my vitamins because anything with flavor makes me want to . My PCP told me yesterday that I was beginning to show signs of dehydration, but even water is hurtful at times. When I went in to get one of my incisions packed (read my page for details) the surgeon popped in real quick.
I explained everything to him and he asked if I was taking my Protonix. I told him it was the one thing I was making myself take because I didn't want to have any issues with acid. I also told him I was on the Augmentin and he told me to stop that right away since it's probably causing the pains I'm having.
When I explained that I had pain a few times yesterday just after drinking water he said "Yep. You have an ucler. Or you could be lucky, it could just be raw." So, I'm off the Augmentin and on the Carafate.
What I want to know is *IF* I do have an ucler, what's next? Could the Carafate fix it? If not, what's next? What all is involved? I'm not a worry wart and I don't get upset over things that are out of my control. I just like to have a little info on things I could be getting into.
Any advice any of you could give me would be awesome! Thank you!
~Shelly
My sister-in-law got ulcer from taking Cumadin (they said). She had RNY 19 May and after a month couldn't eat or drink. SHe is on Nexum and Carafate. They didn't indicate how long it would take to heal but she has a large one and has to do IV until she feels like eating again.
Sounds like your doctor diagnosed it right away. You are very luck.

I was in the hospital in late May - resulting from an accident- and was given augmentin after it was decided that I had developed cellulitis. The augmentin made me deathly sick--nausea and vomiting. I was on it for about 4 weeks and was sick the entire time. I haven't had my surgery yet. Hope that you will feel better once the augmentin gets out of your system. Good luck and God Bless. Debra
