Does anyone know if this insurance is covered for the surgery

I have UHC and had the surgery in April. I was approved right away and had no trouble. My only issue was that the Barix Center is out of network. I had to pay some of the cost. Be careful though. Every employer is different on the kind of coverage and what they cover. It can't hurt to ask. Best of luck.

Hi Cindy.. I have United Health Care, and they did NOT cover my surgery..It's up to the employer if they want to include or exclude "obesity" surgery. It lowers their cost to exclude things..so check with UHC and they can tell you if your plan will cover it. I hope they do..it's not cheap, but was worth every penny! Good Luck..Jan

I also have UHC and have approval. I also hear that Home Depot has UHC and they cover the WLS surgery, but have also heard of some companies that have written exclusions specifically against WLS surgery. As everyone else has said, you will need to contact UHC and ask them. There is a toll free number on the back of your membership card and they can answer questions about policy coverage. They can even sometimes give you verbal approval, but get the approval number. Submit this to your doctor and you can get the ball rolling even quicker! Darrell

Hi Cindy! I have UHC through Limited Brands and they have a specific policy that wls is covered only if proven medically necessary. I was approved in 2 weeks I've seen lots of posts where UHC covered the surgery, but there are always exceptions. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that yours has this addition to the regular policy! Pam
