Dr. C What can you tell me about lipodema?

Dr. Curry what do you know about lipodema and how WLS can help it? I was told that WLS would only help me lose above the waist. Wish I knew that before I had surgery.

Sarah, Are you talking about lymphedema? If so, it is due to swelling from poor emptying of lymphatic channels. Lymphedema usually improves after WLS, but does not go away completely, as the large size of the legs is not due to excess fat, but excess fluid from these clogged lymphatics.
