PAT questions........
Hi all! I will be going for my PAT's on Friday at St. Vincents in Cleveland. Anyone on this board that has had surgery there? Just wondering exactly what is done on pat day and what is the latest you would be there? (wondering because of work that evening). My surgery is scheduled for Sept. 20-anyone out there with the same day? Thanks! Jan
Hi Jan
I had my surgery done at St Vincents on 4/22/04. I had my PAT's on 3/24/04. Its no big deal. You get there at 7:15 and the register you for your hospital stay and basically put your info in the computer.....then you are taken to the next room and asked a million questions by the PAT nurse and then they take several tubes of blood (I think it was 9 tubes or so) then they do a EKG if needed (I already had that done a few weeks earlier so I didn't need that) Then you wait for the Pulimonary test...which is no big deal....you just do several breathing tests into a tube attached to a big machine. Once everyone is done in the PAT area...you are taken upstairs to the meeting room.....you then have a meeting with someone who has had the surgery and you can ask lots of questions....then you have a meeting with the nurse and then the nutrionist. You will be weighed in and a picture will be taken of you on this day. They do offer you a small snack while you are in the meeting room (They had a bagel w/cream cheese and jelly, orange juice and and apple ) Each person is then taken to see a Bariatric doctor for a quick checkup. All in all this a very informative day and you really learn alot about post op life and eating and what to expect in the hospital and when you get home. And you have the oppourtunity to ask any and all questions and concerns you might have. I think the group size may vary but we had 6 people in my group. I think we ended up getting out around 1 or 1:30 or so....I know they say to expect to be there until 3....but we finished everything early....which is good because I had to be at work at 3.
Good luck on your upcoming surgery.....get ready for the ride of your life. I am just over 4 months post op and have lost 114 lbs so far for a total of 144 lbs since my surgeon consultation on 1/28/04.
Good luck and take care,
Roger
