Does anyone know how long to get a consultation with the drs. after the committee has said o.k.? And after the consultation - how long before surgery (laproscopic)? I'm sooooo anxious. Debra

A lot depends on your insurance requirements. Usual process is that you meet with surgeon after your post-surgery teaching classes, which are scheduled for 4 consecutive weeks. They usually don't schedule you with surgeon until your surgery's been approved by your insurance company.

Hi everyone; I will find out on next Thursday if OSU will allow me to participate in the WLS Program. It took me about 4 month to get this far in my journey. It took me almost 2 months just to find a Psychologist who would accepted Medicaid to complete my psych evaluation. To keep myself from getting to focused on how long the entire process takes ... I think about the 40 years it took me to gain the weight and the year it took me to make the decision to have WLS. Even though I have not received approval yet, I am closer than I was 4 months ago. Be encouraged and hang in there. Georgeann Columbus, OH

Debra, You have to get insurance approval before the consultation. Once I got insurance approval it took about 7 weeks for my consultation date. Then I was scheduled for my surgery 4 weeks later. Feel free to e-mail me off line if you have any other questions. I had my laproscopic surgery in April with Needleman. Tandi 246/189/?

Hi Debra, Once the comittee says ok, then it goes to your insurance company. They will also send you a letter about scheduing a psychiatric evaluation, and a consult with a nutritionist. You will also have some lab work done too. Depending on what your insurance says you will have to do will depend on how long from there. Once you have insurance approval, then they schedule you for your 4 pre op diet teaching classes. Upon finishing those, you will then be scheduled for your history and physical with the surgeon. On that day you will get your surgery date. Hope this helps. I am an RN at OSU and had my RNY there too. I do some speaking for the department too. If you have any other questions please feel free to email me! GOOD LUCK! Valerie Curry, RN Lap RNY 07/10/2003 268/172/145
