Hi gang! Just wanted to pass some information on to you all! OSU has regularly scheduled information sessions on the first Thursday of every month. I did find out that Dr. Needleman does not attend those meetings. Shannon Surber and Kathy Horton are there to answer questions about the program and insurance. They also have two gastric bypass patients there to tell about their experiences. I will be at the August 5th one. They are at 6pm, and held at the Camera Center on campus. The support groups are the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7pm and held at the same place. They always have a professional speaker, and from experience I can tell you they are really good. They usually have a good turnout. For more information, and directions please call 614-293-2888. If you would like to speak to Shannon you can push option 3. I am also gathering information about a Research Study that may be beginning shortly, which seems to be more in the form of a data base. As soon as I can I will post about that as well. Also, I know I have seen people post about weight limits. Usually the cap for laproscopic roux-en y surgery here at OSU is 380 pounds. For lap banding it is 300 pounds. Obviously, they try to do laproscopic but there can be cir****tances that can prevent the surgeons from going that route. But the goal is to do that laproscopic. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I will be happy to help you all out the best I can. Take care everyone! Valerie Curry, RN Lap RNY 07/10/2003 Ohio State University 268/172/145

Thank you so much Valerie for finding out about the weight cap at OSU. I saw Nancy Weiss yesterday and she told me that she thinks I can have the laproscopic and I am so..... happy. I haven't felt this motivated for a while. Thanks for all the info. Debra

YEAH DEBRA!!!! I am soooooooo happy for you too! This road has a lot of ups and downs and man sometimes I would get so discouraged and dissappointed. But, it is so worth it in the long run. Just don't give up. I like Dori in "Finding Nemo" where she sings "keep swimming swimming swimming" That is my new mantra these days! Did you like Nancy? I really do like her a lot. And guess what? My office is around the corner and down the hall from her! We were in that close of proximity and didn't get a chance to meet! Next time you are up there let me know and maybe we could hook up for a minute even if it is just to say "HI" GOOD LUCK!!! Valerie
