LOOKING FOR SURGEON
I HAVE BEEN PREPARING FOR THIS SURGERY FOR A WHILE. I RECENTLY WAS INTRODUCED TO A SURGEON WHO HIMSELF HAS HAD THE SURGERY. IN A TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH HE HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAD THE LAPROSCOPIC SURGERY DONE. I TOLD HIM THAT AROUND HERE THERE SEEMS TO BE A WEIGHT LIMIT ON THAT PROCEDURE. HE THEN TOLD ME THAT HIS SURGEON DOES IT ON VERY VERY OBESS PATIENTS. MY QUESTION IS DO ANY OF YOU KNOW OF A SURGEON IN THIS STATE THAT DOES THIS LESS INVASIVE PROCEDURE ON PEOPLE WEIGHING OVER 300 LBS? ANY INFO APPRECIATED.
Debra,
I'm over 300 (around 360) and when I had my consult with Dr. Curry, he told me he could do it lap but that I was on the borderline to do it and not to gain any weight. I was thrilled as the option for lap had never even been discussed or offered with my previous surgeon.
I hope I don't gain any weight-its not because I'm trying to! Seems I simply LOOK at food and I gain!

Hi Debra, I don't know how close you are to Toledo, but I had lap rny done on 3-10-04 weighing 439. My surgeon is Dr. Patrick White, and I know I was the largest person he had ever done lap on--but since I have had no complications, maybe the door is open for others? I have lost 116 pounds since that date, so I know this surgery works. Hope this helps. Good luck on your journey. Patti
