self pay
Hi Tommie,
I'll be self pay myself in a few weeks, and did quite a bit of checking around, so I can give you a little low down. I am borrowing the money from my local bank, but most of the hospitals/surgeons I looked into had "funding available." What this means is that they have financial institutions they can reccommend for a loan. Every place I checked required everything to be paid up front.
Hope this helps, if you need any other info, feel free to email me. Good luck!

Hi Tommie,
I did self-pay and if you can get it from your bank you might want to do that. My surgeon's office has financing available thru carecredit and they have very high interest rate (credit card high) but I had to use them since I own very little. So I borrowed $10,000 from them, $5,ooo from patient financial solutions and the rest from a savings account. When I went to their office to pay, Susan (dr's financial counselor) had to write receipts and run my carecredit card, then my debit card and finally my mastercard. Everything is paid for though and now I just wait until August 3. Remember though if you self pay, make certain you have extra cash put aside because my insurance not only excludes wls but any complications that arise as a result of the surgery will not be covered either. Of course sometimes you have do what is necessary and for me it is have the surgery and hope there are no complications, if there are I will deal with it as needed. Good luck to you.
