Hiya, I'm 6 days post op and I have a whole list of questions for the doc. I'm doing great except for being very sore. I thought I'd post some questions, after the doc, you guys are my best resource and support. When should expect my first bowel movement after surgery? Is burning sensation under skin normal? Or is it just healing? My incisions are great. I have yet to throw up, or even feel like I wanted to. Peeing like crazy. Very sore, to bent over or twist. I'm getting 60-64 grams of protien a day. 64-120 oz. of water a day. Thanks for your help! God Bless, Ang

Once the anesthetic wears off you should start going. That could also be causing the burning sensation. Check with Doc to be sure.

If the burning is where your incisions are - its just healing, I had it too. Have you passed gas? If not check with you Doc. other wise if you are passing gass just no bowel movement, ot will come. I found I was VERY constipated until started on one of my meds that has a side effect that causes you to go. Good luck.

Angela, Sounds very similar to what I went through. I had my surgery a few days before you on 6/23. I was released on the 25th, and I think it took me until around the 29th to release my first small black blob. A couple days later another slightly bigger one, and then about every other day a couple of rabbit pellets (the color is getting better). We're not really placing much in, so I guess its normal that the output is a lot less. Keep an eye on the burning. My left incision was really getting sore and was hard around it and visibly swelled when I walked. The surgeon said it was natural, but it turned out that I formed a fluid pocket, and the well broke one morning and I woulda swore I was bleeding to death. I went in, and he opened it up and drained it. Now I have to pack it with gauze 2 times a day until it heals from the inside out. Not a big setback, but it does seem to tap my energy levels a bit since they did that. On the upside, I've dropped 30 lbs from my pre-surgery weight in less than 2 weeks! I've only really dumped once while eating grilled perch. It was horrible. 45 mins of vomiting. I thought I was going to blow out my staples, but it passed. No more fish for awhile! I decided to modify my VERY restrictive diet yesterday and try one sugar free (well it's made with sugar alcohol) gummy worm. No dumping, although I didn't chew it well enough and my pouch was not particularly pleased with that. Great job on the protein and water! I'm not getting anywhere near as much of either. I'm still a bit afraid of water. It goes down too easily and I worry it's leaking. I can drink about 10-12oz of water in a few minutes. If the water is ice cold it causes a little indigestion that passes quickly. As far as protein, I'm eating nearly 100% protein (well except the gummy worm), but nowhere near 64ozs. More like 10. I went on avery very high protein diet for 3 weeks before my surgery, so maybe I'm getting by on my reserves. I just can't eat much, and my surgeon told me to only eat 3 times/day. Joseph
