Need help from Sisters and Brothers from Ohio

Hi my dear Sisters and Brothers from Ohio. I need your help. My aunt is from Ohio and is wanting to have WLS and needs the name of a good surgereon. She's from Perrysburg, Ohio. Also, can you tell me if anyone on this board has had United Healthcare insurance. If so, how much of your surgery did they pay. Take care and thank you of so much for your help! There is only one Doctor to use as far as I am concerned.If she wants someone is kind,caring and a regular gur its Dr.Curry in Cincinnat. He is at the Deaconess Hospital and has a great support group. I have been to 2 other Drs. and I find him the most comforting to me.He really cares and is always available to call you when you need a question answered.A real class guy.Good luck to you all,Cindy in Cincinnati

Cincinnati is at least a 4 hour drive. Dr Curry is good but there are surgeons closer who will do an excellent job. I will contact margo for you. She is starting a support group in that area and I am sure she will have some excellent recommendations for you a little closer to home. I don't think Margo has a computer right now but if she does, she can be a great resource

Hi Dianna--I live just outside of Toledo. I went to the Barix Center in Yipsilanti, MI. It is about a 45 min. drive north of Toledo. All of the surgeons there are great. I also have United Healthcare. Because I chose to go out of network, I had to pay $1500. It was well worth it. The care I got was beyond good. The people are caring and concerned and your grandmother would be in great hands. If I can be of any help please feel free to email me. Best wishes to you and grandma.

Hi Dianna, I answered to your other post about Dr. Kligman, but thought I would also respond here. What type of WLS is your siser looking for? Like I said I had the Lap Band done by Dr. Duckette in Maumee. Maumee is just over the bridge away from Perrysburg. Like a stone throw...lol. If she is interested in his information please let me know and I will give it to you. His waiting period was not long at all. Once you have insurance approval and all the medical testing done, it is like 6 weeks. I was so glad I ended up with this type of surgery. If she has not considered the lap band please tell her to do some research on it. I at one time was scheduled for the gastic bypass and several things happened ...one major thing was I ended up with blood clots in both lungs and legs and this was found by the dr there during my pretesting for surgery. I am sure these clots were caused by me taking the birth control period to control my periods before i had surgery. I ended up in the hospital for a week and had a greenfield filter put in , which will catch any clots that would form in my legs from traveling to my lungs. Well... after waiting the 6 months after that I contacting the gastric bypass dr. and was told that i could not have my surgery done there. That I needed to be in a hospital where there was a intentsve care. That is when I started looking again at my options and found the lap band being done locally. I was in the hospital over night, and started to feeling better then I did before surgery not long after. I lost 26 pounds the first 9 days. This is alot, even dr. was alittle concerned and I know this rate will not continue, yet it sure gave me a boost !! I will only weigh at the dr.'s office so I do not know how much more I have lost. I am only like 19 days out now. gosh.. I didn't mean to write a novel.... but please let your sister know about the option of a lap band. Cindy

Why dont all Dr. do lap bands? Can they be removed if you want them to be? cindy from Cincinnati
