I am 14 days post-op and have only lost 10 pounds. I was down 13 til I started pureed then I gained 3 back. I have my protein up to 50g or more and my calories are 600 to 800 a day. I am diabetic and am still playing with my meds(doc suppervised) to get my sugars in line without taking all the meds. I know insulin retards weight loss, but I feel I should be losing more. I am wallking 3 times a day - not real far yet. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello there! It sounds like you should really be getting more calories in that you currently are. When you don't get enough calories in you can actually slow down your metabolism. Also you need to have sure that you are eating approx. 6 times a day. Skipping meals can also slow down your metabolism. Your protein level seems kinda low to me that also can be a cause. Try to incorporate a protein powder or a protein shake into your diet. There is a good protein powder, it's called Any Whey! You can buy it at GNC or at optimumnutrition.com it's actually non-flavored so you can add it to soup or mashed potatoes also! Let me know if you have any other questions! Erin L. Hurst, RD, LP9994

You are still recovering from surgery and the anesthetic also. Protein is a tad low n I would definitely supplement. You are doing good so far. It gets better. Ideally you need around 1000-1200 per day

DON'T weigh yourself every day only once a month. I know it is hard but that is not a good idea ut your scale away or send it home with someone. I got rid of my scale and now weigh at my mothers because I am not there often and can't weigh all the time. I only lost 14 pd. in 2 weeks it depends on how much over weight you are and your cycle if you have one. we only weigh our right weight 4-5 days a month due to all the ups and downs with our cycles and water gain. don't fret I too feel like it doesn't come off quick enough but it will. AS long as you are steddily loosing which you will don't fret. give it some time and as you said you are taking meds that need to be set up for you first. it will come off give it time you haven't been out of surgery that long.
