8 Weeks Post-Op, but need more protein
I'm 8 weeks post-op today and I'm down 69lbs. I'm doing good, but I wish I could get more protein. I'm probably getting 50-60 grams a day, but would like to get around 100. I can only eat so much chicken and fish a day. I drink the Adkins shake which is pretty good and I like the Adkins bars and Carb Solution Bars, but both are expensive. I'm not a big fan of the EAS shakes, but will do. Has anyone found any protein sources that are both good and cheap?
Also, what about peanuts or peanut butter? Are they a no no?
Hello,
My doc told me that peanut butter was a good source to get some protein in but he wanted me to buy Simply Jiff only; for two table spoons of Simply Jiff it has 6g carbs and 8g of protein 2g sugar. I LOVE Carb Solutions shakes and Adkins shakes. I did not like the EAS shakes at all they made me .
Hello there this is Erin Hurst,RD. I'm the dietitian at Deaconess Hospital in Cinci, OH. You could always get a protein powder. There is one that I recommend and you can purchase it at GNC or www.optimumnutrition.com. It has 17 gm/pro per scoop and only 1 gm/carb per scoop. AND it's non-flavored so you can even put it in soup and even stick some into the shakes that you have been drinking. Feel free to email with any other questions!

OH AND CONGRATS TO YOU FOR THE GREAT PROGRESS YOU ARE MAKING!!!!!
My doctor wants about 50-60 protiens per day. but if you feel you need more slom fast low carb choc. is good with 20 gr. and Hood makes a yogart drink (strawberry, peach ,ect) that are realy good if you like yogart at 13 gr. each. even if you fit in one yogart drink a day that would put you at about 75 gram I don't think to much more is a good idea what does your doctor recommend in grams? there is also a carb solution choc. milk that is good I can't remember the gram of protien though TOTAL makes a protien cereal that is good kindof a thicker flake but put a bit of sweet in low inthe milk and it tastes fine. .
good luck
