Well, I called Dr. Spiers office today and was told that they have a date for me to get the surgery. But I have to get insurance to approve the new doctor and I have to come up with $1500 for the doc and another $1500 for the hospital. I know I could get the first $1500 but the second $1500 I have no clue. Now I also was told that Dr. Spiers only does Open RNY. He does not do lap at all. I figured I could go to cash advances to get the first $1500 but I don't know about the rest. It's sad to be so poor huh???? Eventually I will get through this I just wish I had all the answers. But then again, don't we all? Thanks for listening guys. Traci

Traci, Someone else is using Dr. Spiers and from what I understand, are "making payments" to the hospital where the procedure is being done. She is having it done at Mercy Medical here in Springfield. I don't know where you were wanting to have it done at or if the other hospital here will allow you to do the same thing but you could always try working it out with the hospital maybe for that second amount you need. Hi Traci - I have my first consult with Dr. Spier this month .. he needs his pay up front ... but I am self-pay so called both hospitals and found out they accept payments on certain situations at Mercy. I am sure you could swing this too. Can you tell me how long from your consultation was your surgery date scheduled ? Curious as to how fast Dr.Spier likes to work. Also, I really wanted Lap too .. but I could only find great things about Dr.Spier and how many medical staff will recommend him from the Columbus Hospitals .. that sold me ... like it that he has a good reputation amongst his peirs. So I am now fine with open .. feel my scar will be minimal with his skill. Good Luck and God Bless ... Meaghan

Traci, I also had an appointment with Dr. Spiers yesterday, but I elected to cancel when I found out from his office that he only does open. I have heard nothing but good things about him and know a couple people that have gone to him and were very satisfied. My preference is the Lap RNY for several reasons so I'm going with Dr. Needleman at OSU. The wait is longer but worth it to me. Good Luck to you. Sheila
