Lap RNY for people with high BMI?
Does anyone know of a good surgeon in NE Ohio or Western PA who performs the Lap RNY for people with a higher BMI (in the 60's)?
I really want to have this surgery, but have my mind set on having it done
Lap, and am so far unable to find a good surgeon with experience in this
area who performs it on people with higher BMI's.
Please Help!
Any particular reason you are really wanting LAP? My BMI is 64.5 just on the borderline with OSU, to either go LAP or Open, they decided that I was best suited for Open since I have had a previous abdominal surgery.
I am happy with that decision, because I feel that it's safer. Longer recovery - yes - but the ability to get to what needs gotten to is easier with an open, I understand.
If you have had no previous abdominal surgeries and your BMI is less than 65 than you have a chance with one of the Lap surgeons at Ohio State.

hi....i live in northeastern ohio and have been to see a surgeon in PA. He told me he schedules everyone for Lap unless he runs into problems during the surgery, that is the way you are done. If you have had previous abdominal surgery he considers that also. My BMI is 50...If you would like his number..email me and i will send it to you. He works out of Allegheny Hospital in Pa..........Good Luck........Patty
Hi Tami. I had lap rny surgery on 3-10-04 with a BMI of 67. My surgeon is Dr. Patrick White in Toledo. I have had no complications, no dumping syndrome, and have lost approx. 60 lbs. since that date. I am handicapped with fibromyalgia and a very bad left knee and have been thus far unable to exercise besides trying to increase my walking (I use a cane). However I feel so much better and my diabetes is in remission. I would recommend Dr. White to anyone as he made a miracle of new life for me. Hope this helps.
