HI! I am looking for info. I have a bmi of almost 37, I am diabetic and have a horrible family history of heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity just to name a few. I have been obese since I was a small child. I have run the gauntlet of every diet and exercise program just like everyone else has. I am at the bottom, and I just can't seem to pick myself up. My mother has just had heart surgery for the second time and she had a stroke after. She lost her vision in one eye from her diabetes, I do not want to live that life within the next 15 years. Do I have any hope for getting a surgeon to do the wls on me? Is there anyone out there like me? Not quite there weight wise, but all the medical history complications, and have hit the bottom? I could use the advise....
Thanks!
Beth
Hi Beth,
You got what it takes unfortunantly to be approved for surgery. Dr Trace Curry is our surgeon here at Deaconess and has patients with BMI's like yours and with a lot of medical problems with it. Insurance Companies can sometimes give you and the Surgeon's team a hassle, but gotta jump throught the hoops! I am glad that you want to make changes that can and will prevent further medical problems! Check around and see what different surgeons and your Primary Care Physician think!! You are always welcome to call us here at Deaconess Surgical Weight Loss. 513.559.2545
Take Care!!

Thanks! I have an appointment with my primary care doc on Thursday. She is super super wonderful and she has other patients who have had the surgery. So I will keep you in mind after I talk with her. I was just afraid that I would go and get laughed at. It's so strange to hear that you are not fat enough!!! I have been overweight for so long, and I know that so many others are more obese than I am, but I can not stop this by myself. Thank you so much for your help!
Beth:
I am also in the search/ need of an exceptional solution to weight loss...so that I can begin enjoying life again with my children. I really have been doing a lot of research and have considered my options carefully over the past few years. I am new to this board and have found that the people here are very supportive and helpful. However, it is really important to do your own research in this journey so that you can feel totally comfortable with your decision. I personally want to go to a private facility rather than a public hospital or university. I want the "royal" treatment so to speak, because this is such an important decision, and I want it done right, with a reputable surgeon. So, I started with that thought in mind first...and then continued from there to find a surgeon. You WILL find someone to help you...it will just take a little time and diligence on your part. Thankfully I have learned to be patient, regardless of the setbacks I face with my current debilitations. You haven't hit bottom...you are rising to the top!

Thanks! I have an aunt who has had the surgery in Cleveland at the clinic, and another aunt ready to schedule her surgery with the same doctor not to mention a cousin who is in the nutritional classes with the same doc. So I called my aunt tonight and she gave me the number, so I have to go check him out. My family doc wants to try other options because she isn't a fan of the surgery, she even tried to discourage my aunt a bit. But she has a good heart, and believes she can help with diets. But she has never been overweight in her life, so she doesn't exactly know where we are coming from.
But I will keep all of that in mind when I am making my decisions, thanks for the advice and the support....all of you who have replied....thanks!
