How many Protein Shakes are too many? Or is there a limit??? HELP
Good Morning,
I was wondering about the amount of protein I am taking in per day with the amount of protein shakes I am drinking. I have not really had an appetite for food lately, but for some odd reason I have finally been able to drink the shakes that I could not even gag down a month ago. I have found one from GNC called Mega Isolate. Per each 12oz it contains 50g of protein,2g sugar,5g carbs. I am mixing it with skim milk which has 8g of protein. So all together I am taking in 58g of protein. I have been drinking three of those a day and eating a little beef jerky and yougart. I have been drinking lots of water. Is this ok for me to be doing this? I just can't seem to get into the eating breakfast, lunch and dinner! I would just rather drink it. Is this a stage that people go through? Someone please let me know if this is normal or if I am just weird?? hahahahahha
On a good side of it all, I am almost 3 months postop and I am down -55 pounds! Although the scales have not moved in a week and I just had my gallbladder removed on Thursday via LAP!
P.S. Sandy I know you will know the answer!!!! You are so wonderful!!!!!
I need some advise here! Thank you so much!

good morning! i think my answer is that you should be confirming with your doc or nutritionist as to how much protein to take per day---my doc has said that due to me height- i am 5'1" and my sex- i am female!- i should only strive for 58 grams of protein per day- too much above that can damage our kidneys--that is my total--someone taller would have more- --soooo i would consult your doc--- now as to the drinking- i understand that! i am learning well to make choices as to what i can or cannot eat but i find that to guarantee my protein i am still using a drink or pudding with protein or a bar to make sure part of my daily intake is there-somedays it is easier too depending on your schedule of activities!
your scales will move- remember that your body is readjusting now after your lap surgery!
good luck to you!
Hello there my name is Erin Hurst and I am the Bariatric at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Taking in the amt of protein that you are currently is fine! I'm very proud that you are able to get that much in! Some of my pts are having problems with protein. Eventually after you start feeling better you will start to want "real food" and you will need to phase those protein drinks out later on down the road because they can interfere with your long term weight loss goal. How far post-op are you??? If you have any questions feel free to email me! Hope that helped a bit!
