I have to have the psyc eval first. What is it all about? I am on Zoloft for anxiety and depression. Will this count against me? I understand about surgery changing the body and not the mind. I understand there will be greiving for food and that kind of scares me because I love to eat! My mother had the surgery and doesn't get dumping so I know there is a chance that I may not too. Thanks for listening Angela

Although each psych eval is different, it will not count against you. The one I did was the 565 question MPII. They really want to make sure you understand the lifestyle changes necessary and are prepared to cope. They also want to make sure you have the will power to work the tool

Hey Angela, I had the same test that Jack had with an additional 300 questions. Because of an insurance exclusion, I am seeking some help from Vocational Rehabilitation, and I believe most of the testing I had was a VR requirement. Fortunately for me, I can use the same results for my surgeons psych eval. When I walked into the psychologists office, I walked in with confidance, and assured him that I was having this surgery no matter how I had to get there. I too, have taken antidepressants over the years, but he didn't see that as anything major. He asked very few personal questions, then said I "appeared to be grounded and focussed." I won't get the results from the testing until next week, but am confident that it went smoothly. Good luck, La

Would Vocational Rehabilitation have anything to do with someone who is self-employed and doesn't have insurance ? Excuse my ignorance ... moved here from Canada. Meaghan

Vocational Rehabilitation Service is a government agency whose pupose is find get UNEMPLOYED people jobs. I have discovered by reading the boards, that there have been a very few people who have gotten assistance from them. The premice being that if we don't fix the problem now, we will soon BE unemplyed because our bodies aren't going to take much more abuse. And if that happens, the state will be paying for us anyway when we're on disability. It seems to be a very new concept. From what I've seen, there have not been many cases. I don't think anyone in Ohio has had assistance from them, but there's always got to be a first! Where have you checked into getting your surgery, and how much is it going to cost? Good Luck!
