Dr. Curry
I went to an information meeting held by Dr. Curry on May 20th. He was amazing, I really like him and he is majorly friendly. I set up an appointment to go and see him this Friday, May 28th. Went to my PCP on Saturday and he gave me the thumbs up, told me this was the best decision I could make and he was happy I have made it. He suggested I have an endoscope done, I have a really low gag resistance so this makes me a bit nervous. I am just waiting to go see Dr. Curry now... my insurance changes on June 1st so now I am just a bit nervous about that end. I have been working on this for a long time and I am starting to feel at peace with my decision, yet terrified at the same time; if that makes any sense at all?
My family and fiance are being amazing about this, I couldn't ask for anything more.
Anyone have thoughts as to what I may be ahead for me? I want to make sure I have all of my ducks in a row if possible so the insurance will give me a positive response.
Thanks for reading! Have a GREAT Monday.
Ask them to put you out for the endoscopy. They have a wonderful drug that will do that. Dr Curry just spoke Friday at our support group and was very well received. Depending on insurance you will have several more test but he will enlighten you on those.
You can check out more info on a local support group called wlsbutterflynetwork.org (www)
Our next meeting is June 4. You can also email me for any additional questions
Thanks for the reply and I will be looking into the support group meeting.
I have had a number of tests already in prep. I have had a gallbladder scan, stress test, EKG, and blood work. There may be more but those are the major ones!
Again, thank you for responding. I have been reading for a while and finally decided to post. I would love to become a part of this family so I will be able to communicate with people that understand what I am going through once I have the surgery.
Hi Heather,
I have seen your name in the member forum's member directory. I am a patient of Dr. C. too. CAn't wait to have this surgery. I would suggest double checking to make sure you do have all tests and requirements fulfilled. I thought I did and then Medicaid wanted a psyche eval. I am doing it this afternoon at Deaconess. Then just waiting for a date.
Write to me anytime. I am online all the time. We can be surgery buddies. Might end up having it at the same time. Would be nice to have another wls sister to compare notes with. Good luck with everything.

Hi, Heather! Don't sweat the endoscopy. I was scared silly before my scheduled endoscopy because I have a terrible gag reflex and had yucky memories of an endoscopy I had 20 years ago.
Well, I'm happy to tell you that things have changed! I had an endoscopy before and after surgery and have to tell you the truth - they were a snap! The new drugs they use make it so easy to cooperate, then you zone out and miss just about everything.
I had no problem and suspect that you'll do great, too! Donna
Hi again Heather,
I had the endoscope with Dr. C. and didn't even know they had done it. He used Versed and Demerol and I was out like a light. Not even a sore throat. I can tell you the folks in Endoscopy were just wonderful, friendly and so much fun. If the male nurse does your IV you won't feel it. Heck he even sang a song for me lol. Get the picture? They are great and think very highly of Dr. C. too. My whole experience was wonderful.
If I think of anything else I will get back with you lol.
