Financing surgery
I was wondering if anyone has financed the surgery to pay for it themselves due to insurance denial and if so, how hard is the process? Do you have to have really good credit? I'm going to go thru the new Wish Center in Middletown, Ohio and the lady at their office that I spoke to on the phone today said the do the financing "in house" and I'm not sure if my credit will be good enough, but I really need the surgery. Also, how much is the total cost of the surgery? Thanks!
I looked into self pay during my appeal - You did appeal, right? Anyhoo, at St V's in Cleveland self pay is 14k up front - 10K for hospital. 3 for primary surgeon and 1K for the second surgeon. You have to pay for the rest afterwards. One thing that really scared me is if you have anykind of complication, insurance will not cover you because you went in under an unauthorised surgery. I had MMOH and was denied the first time but approved on appeal. Good Luck!
I am going self pay. Our insurance (Summit) flat out excludes it, even if you have other things (diabetes, etc). I looked at the Wish place but I had already decided where I wanted to go and only needed the financing but website I found was the financing one. Anyway, I've checked in Springfield (Open RNY) and it was going to be about $16K, I checked at the BTC in Grove city and self pay was $25,5 for laproscopic. I found a place in Kettering that seems as tho it will be around $17-18K for lap. My sister had it done by lap and had a really quick recovery time. I didn't want a scar from my boobs to my belly button, she only has about 5-6 "slits". I've considered a 2nd mortgage, a 401k draw but I think I'm going w/ a credit card that happens to have a high limit on it. The interest rate is 8.99 but I'm not sure a loan would have any less of an interest rate and I figure it should help our taxes this year. Its an investment in me and I'm going to find a way to pay for it.....darn insurance companies!! Hope this helps, Bev
Hi, my insurance PHCS thru LabOne has an exclusion for any type of wls, bariatric anything. I am paying for it on my own and praying I don't have complications. My surgeon is at University Pointe and they do finance thru their office but would only okay $10,000 for me, the total needed for hospital, radiology, anesthesia & surgeon is $21,500 at University Hospital in Cincinnati. I have $7,000 in my savings and thanks to this website discovered www.p-f-s.com (patient financial solutions) and borrowed $5,000 at 12.99% for 4 years (no penalty for paying off early). The thing is I know it is better for me to find the cash to do this now rather than suffer with my comorbidities ( at 385-394 lbs I have more than a few ) and risk stroke or worse because my medical ins has stupid exclusions. They would rather pay for my meds or materials for arthritis, hypertension, asthma, depression, lymphedema and sleep apnea. Plus no way am I as good an employee as I could be (will be once I lose this weight) so LabOne is being very short sighted. Oh well, lucky for me there is a way to have the surgery, now if I could just get my surgery date.
