Abnormal EKG
I was almost there! My surgery date is set for May 13th and I had my pre-admission testing on Wednesday and my EKG was evaluated as abnormal. I am so distressed. I can't seem to get an appointment soon enough to be able to get clearance to have my surgery. The technician first of all talked to me the entire time she was conducting the test and I also was responding. Would this disturb the test? If I didn't really have heart problems before, all this waiting and obstacles is wearing on my heart now!
Shawn, are you have your surgery at SVCH? I am too! My surgery date is the 11th, and I am having the open proceedure, so maybe I will see you there!
Anyway, I went in for my PAT last friday 23rd and was also told I had an abnormal EKG. The also told me I had to get a cardiologists clearance before I could have the surgery, I was told clearance has to be in by the 5th. There was another guy who did the PAT with me who ALSO had a bad ekg. This guy and I were talking and both said that we have never had any EKG problems before now, so I am thinking that their tech may be doing something wrong, or the machine/leads were faulty. Anyway, They gave me the name of three different cardio groups that could pick from, and it just so happened that they were all located in the same medical building as CCBS. As soon as we were done with our PAT I went straight to all three offices to see who could get me an appt first. I finally got in with Dr. Gupta the following Tuesday (April 27th). She said my EKG was MILDLY abnormal, but it was nothing that should keep me from having the surgery...still, she wants me to do a stress test which we scheduled for This coming Tue (May 4th). I am going to her strongsville office that day. Dr. Gupta seems very familiar with the time sensitive nature CCBS demands of her assesment and is eager to hurry up and get this done for me.
Keep calling, call EVERYONE. Tell tell them you need to get in TODAY. Has the nurse called you back about your bloodwork? Mine called me back four days after my PAT to tell me that my potassium was too low, which mean off to my PCP, more drugs, more bloodwork, more co-pays. its ridiculous! I know what you mean about all of this stress wearing on you....its totally stressing me out!
Good Luck to you!

Hi Jen! Thanks for responding! It is so strange, but today I couldn't take the stress anymore. My doctor was supposed to get back to me with an earlier appointment to see the cardiologist. Well she never called. I went ahead and went to Kaiser's Immediate Care today and told them I was having chest tightness. I knew they would have to do an EKG...smart huh? Anyway, it was totally normal. They advised me to contact St. Vincent and let them know there is something wrong. The results they had given me suggested I had a major heart attack. I am so glad I checked it out, now I can move forward with my surgery. I'll look for you and please look for me.
My bloodwork showed that I am a tad bit anemic, so I have to take iron and Vitamin C up until my surgery.
Keep me posted!
