Anyone with helpful info about the process, doctors, facilities at Mt. Carmel in Columbus would be greatfully appreciated. Orientation/consult set up for May 12th. Thank you in advance.

I had my consultation with Dr. Price (Mid-Ohio Surgical Associates) on April 16th at Mt. Carmel. Are you going to East or Mall (downtown)? I had a hard time actually getting in, scheduling problems with Dr. Price's clinic and problems with paperwork being transfered from my PCP but once there I had a very positive visit with Dr. Price. He's sending me to get testing done with a Cardiologist and Pulmonary specialist. They also require you to go to at least 1 support group meeting there, and an information session before surgery. If you have any questions, let me know. Only thing I can think to offer for advice is -- be prepared to wait. If you are taking off work for your appointment, make sure you have plenty of time before you need to be back at work. When I was there they were about an hour to an hour and a half behind (Dr. Price was called into surgery early that morning) and I was told by another patient that it wasn't uncommon.

I've found with at least Dr Custer, you can schedule morning appointments at MTC East. He's usually on time and prompt. Anytime that I've had an appointment at the West office, I've usually waited at least an hour. It takes a few minutes longer for me to get to East, but saving my time is well worth it. The parking is also free.

Thanks. I was told the initial orientation I had to go tot he west one. Do they do the surgery at both west and east? Thanks for the response. Matt

Hi there, I think they only do the surgeries at the West location. As far as Dr. Custer and Kathy, I think they are both great. His office staff seems to be very busy so the approval process can be drawn out a little. When it comes to the hospital staff (at least the people who cared for me), I didn't have any major problems. Sometimes they take longer than you would expect to answer when you ring the buzzer..but I felt like my care was very good.
