Those who've had insurance approval from MMOH...

Ok... I've been jumping through hoops for about 3 mos. now trying to get approval. They asked for documentation of attempted weight loss attempts. Well, I have been pregnant for the past 3 years (well... not this past year. My daughter is one this weekend.) and all the records from my medically supervised weight loss attempts have been shredded! One doctor died, the other two doctors' policies are to shred after 4-6 years. Then, of course Jenny Craig and WW don't keep records that long, either. Anyway, I asked my PCP from a couple of years ago to write a letter on my behalf. He agreed to do so, but he did not supervise any of my weight loss attempts. Taking medication, including Metabolife, freaks me out, so I have never attempted the medications listed elsewhere. Any thoughts on what the medical review team will make of this? Can I expect to be shot down? Or, might they require a six-month supervised diet? Experiences and information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sarah Vargo

the doctor that did my followed diet lost his license to practice in Ohio and went to Texas, Medicaid refused to pay anything with his name on it and he did not tell the doctor that hired him so he was fired. Then he hired an undercover cop to break the doctors knees and now is in prison. Well I called my insurance company and explained this to them (when I had great west) they were understanding and noted on my file that I called about this and told me to submit a letter about what happened and that exceptions have been made., So maybe try calling your insurance and explain. Also the BTC said it is policy that we do not submit without everything the insurance wants (which was a 12 month diet history by a physician) did not want to wait another 12 months so I told them what my insurance company said and they agreed to submit however.........due to illnesses I had to quit my job and am now pursueing the surgery with medicare (which no physician diet is required) I hope this helps and whatever you do do not give up also get something from those doctors stateing their policies about shredding maybe it will help

I had them and waited a full year to switch companies. I hear that they are pretty firm about their requirements. I had a friend that was denied and did 2 appeals. She never got approved. I have also heard stories about people not having a problem at all with them. I would call the co. and ask what they require. Good Luck!

I think it depends on your contract. However, I did not save my Weigh****cher weights, but had the materials. I copied my gym contract, the weigh****cher materials, Richard Simmons Deal a Meal, ect, ect. I did have my doctor's note on a progress note that I was on Xenical. Do you have any materials from all the diets you were on? I even copied the front and back of the darn Atkins book I had. I also had my 5 years of documented weights. I was missing a year but remembered I go to the gynecologist every year and he weighs me! So that note filled in that year. Do you have a gyn? If you go every year get the weights from the actual progress notes that he wrote for that visit. Don't give up. I was ready to and got approved! My surgery is this Tues, 4/27. Good Luck!! I know it is frustrating but worth it!!
