Seeking info on WLS at Holzer (Gallipolis)
I've started the process at Holzers and have found it to be a positive experience so far. I don't know much about Dr. Canaday, except I did hear him speak at the first meeting I attended. He seemed likable, knowledgeable, and willing to explain everything in detail. I liked him. My Dr. is Dr. Grandia...are you going 5/05 for your first consult? Email me if you have any questions.
This is my personal opinion and has nothing to do with WLS. I am originally from SE Ohio and all of my family is still there. Based on my personal experiences and those of my family members, I wouldn't take a sick cat to Holzer. I know many people have had wonderful experiences there and that is great. Mine (and my family) has not been so great but doesn't reflect the ability of their surgeons. My mother had 2 surgeries there (1995 & 2000) for tumors which she was told were benign and required no further treatment. I just recently got copies of those pathologist reports (due to a 3rd surgery last month at a different hospital) and found the report to say that she had "Intestinal Stromal Tumors which are potentially malignant". These particular tumors will come back - that is their nature - and she was never told this nor was their any follow up. No periodic cat scans or other testing to catch them before they got too big. The ones removed last month varied in size from that of a cantaloupe to lemons and there were several.
Just an FYI, Dr. Canady was disciplined in the state of WV a few years ago. I don't know what for, but you can go to the websites of the states medical boards and find out this information.
Again, just my opinion and we know what they say about opinions...they're like ********everybody's got one and most of them stink.
I'd just do a lot of research and make sure you are comfortable with your decision.
Good Luck
