New WLS surgeon for Akron
Hi gang, it's me again. I just found out that come August of this year, we will have a new WLS surgeon in Akron. I have placed my name on his waiting list. My question is this... How many of you would place your hands in a dr. that is just starting this procedure? Would you go to them, or find one that has a history of doing this surgery? I am torn. I really need this surgery and he is in my insurances network, but it is also 5 months away until he opens. Would you go, or try to find another doctor? Any insight would be wonderful.
Thanks,
Jen
Is he new to AKron?? Or new to the surgery....big difference. I personally would be way more comfortable with someone that has experience. You SOMETIMES hear bad stories about Drs that are just getting into doing it. I am not trying to scare you at all--and you know what -how do you get exp if no one gives you a chance?? Maybe you can see what other types of surgeries he has done etc.....
Good luck--all in all you need to do what you feel is best!
I had someone who was a patient of a "newer" surgeon say that he felt better because he knew the surgeon would be more careful during the surgery...were surgeons who have done more might be more apt to just go through the motions without as much thought and caution.
There were 2 reasons I didn't go to that surgeon...1 was his previous experience and 2 was the hospital he was at did not have other specialist close by....if something were to happen during or after surgery I wanted a heart specialist on the next floor not 2 hours away.
