Hello, I have MMO and the psych eval. was not a big deal. For me it was mainly to see if I have realistic goals, and to follow 'the rules' after and was ready for this big life style change. We just talked for about 45-60 minutes and that was it. I know of others who have to take some type of test of 400 or so questions. The big thing is make sure that the counselor or doc has some experience with WLS. Good Luck, Robin W

I searched the web under "psychiatric evaluation" and found test samples (if you take the written exam as I did) and the test is rated as "valid" or "invalid" which means if you lied a lot on the test or not. After the test, there was an interview for about 45 mins. Basically, you just tell them how your weight limits/affects your life and that you do understand that the surgery is not a cure all for whatever money/relationship/etc problems you may have.

Tammie, I have medical mutual. My doctor had me fill out a 48 page questionaire, I had a short appt with a therapist, she wrote a letter to go with my packet. They didn't ask for anything else. The bad news - it took from November to March to get approval. It's a long story but just know that you have to keep calling every other week to make sure you know the status of your file. When the doctor sent my packet I was told by Med Mut that there were 150 files to be reviewed ahead of mine so I really recommend that you call every two weeks to check the status. My BMI is 57 and I have hypertension but no other comorbidities - your BMI will be a factor - don't you have difficulty with back or joint pain, shortness of breath with exertion, etc? Be sure to mention everything! I've been approved since early March and will have surgery on 3/29. Good luck! PS I love to fish for perch and have spent many happy hours on Lake Erie with friends in Conneaut. Donna
