Insurance questions - Medical Mutual
I have Medical Mutual (Super Med Plus) and I called today to check on my paperwork and I was told that since I have not had 5 years of a BMI of 40 (I don't have a BMI of 40 right now, mine is 38) they had to send it out to an outside consultant to make the decision to approve or deny. Has this happened to anyone else? Did you get approved from an outside consultant with a BMI under 40?
did they say an "outside consultant" or a "physician's assistant"? i have med mut and my bmi had not been +40 for 5 years--it took me abit to understand who was reviewing- when it finally was explained that all surgeyr goe sthru medical review board but R N Y goes to physician's assistant to determine if medically necessary.
do you have any co-morbidities? sleep apnea?diabetes?hypertension? etc....with any c-morbs they should approve you over 35--don't quote me!
good luck!
Margo,
I called them twice yesterday because when I talked to the first girl that told me they sent my information out to an outside consultant because my BMI had not been 40. I found all of my old notes to when I started this process, and I did not write down that my BMI had to be 40, so I called back and spoke to a nice lady. She said that it was sent to a physician advisor to make the final decision. I have high blood pressure. I have been taking medicine for about 3 years for it. So I guess that I will just have to wait and see.
