LAP vs Open

I was planning on getting my surgery done at the BTC (Bariatric Treatment Center) in Columbus. At my consultation meeting I found that they do not do the laparoscopic procedure. I'm very disappointed. If I go to a different Dr/ center I will probably have to wait a lot longer for surgery. I'm not sure what to do! Any thoughts??

Jenny, I had my surgery done at BTC in Groveport.. as of January 21st they had not started doing Lap. .... I know they have been doing it in other states according to the newsletter we get. ... Originally..I had wanted the Lap... I had gone to Cleveland Clinic.... They could not guarantee me that I would end up with Lap if, when they went in and there were complications.... When I visited BTC.... they discussed with me the nature of both surgeries... I decided that open RNY was probably a safer bet for me.... and my scar isn't that bad... the pain for me was very tolerable... and I have no regrets .... the length of time to have a date for my would have been longer had I waited for the Lap....not to mention needing to start the process over with a whole 'nother doctor. I really am glad I chose BTC ... it is their specialty ... and several of the nurses working there and taking care of you have had the surgery and understand what you are going through... and the nurse patient ratio is wonderful.... you get all the attention you need....( that's the end of my commercial!) good luck with making you choices..hopes this helps. V.
