I have had this sinus, earache, sore throat, sinus drainage crap for a few weeks now. I am sick of being sick! I have had several antibiotics, pain killeers etc.. NOTHING seems to work! I am not much of a drinker have had nothing for several years now and AI mean NOTHING. I know that a shot of whiskey would at least cut this sinus drainage and make me feel a lil better. So can post ops have whiskey???? I didnt really pay attention since I am not a drinker but now I WANT a shot. Whats the school of thought?? I had open RNY 10/27/03 and I dont want to dump. I also want to feel better not like I have a RAW oyster stuck in the back of my throat. Let me know please!! Jim-125lbs open RNY 10/27/03

I know what ya mean! I just have an annoying itchy throat and I'm coughing constantly to try to relieve it, I had the whole nine yards a few weeks ago and felt like I was dying. I believe I remember not to drink for 6 months. I know I've taken a drink of beer a few times and was fine. If that's the only thing you think will help you feel better, I'd say maybe just a sip would be enough. Where's Dr. C.? I really like having him around here , he always gives straight answers. I hope you start feeling better soon. My husband's cough was so bad in January that he was tested for Whooping Cough. ~Jessi

I don't see how that would help but if you're gonna do it it will go through you're system really fast. My surgeon said no alcohol ever but hey that was easy for me. Good Luck. I know its Spring. Have you guys checked for allergies?

james, don't want to scare you....but. my bro in law had this surgery done several years ago. mine was done this past feb. when he did have his done, he was told not to drink as i was this year. they told me, and him, that taking a shot or drink was like mainlining alcohol. sadly enough my brother in law has paid the price by starting to drink after his surgery. he lost a lot of weight in the beginning. his start weight was 400. when he started drinking, which he never had a prob w/b4, his weight loss tapered off. the next thing that started to happen was an addiction to alcohol and other drugs. he has since lost his family and gained all of his weight plus back. it has been so very sad watching him destroy his and his families lives over the past 6 or so years. he has many regrets, also. i guess i want you to think a lot b4 drinking and remember the dumping could be the least of what could happen. sorry i took so long to see your question! sue h
