Worried

Hi All!!! Awhile back, I posted about my friend Brian, I didnt get any responses so Im trying again. Please, keep in mind here, Im just seeking input and advice, nothing more. Brian is a wonderful man in his early 40's, has diabetes and sleep apnea just to name a couple, not to mention, he has trouble even walking to the mailbox anymore, but my husband and I do everything we can to keep him moving around and out of the house as much as possible......Brian weighs in at what we believe is almost 500 pounds.........not positive because the doctors scale only goes to 450 and he goes passed it every visit. So why am I telling you this? well, for 2 reasons actually, first, any prayers would be much appreciated because I fear we wont have this wonderful man with us 6 months from now. Secondly, for any advice anyone may have, you see, Brian lost his job, has no insurance, and due to taking care of his mother at the time of his 30 day window for appeal when he was turned down for disability, he is in the process of starting all over and Im afraid it will be too late before he gets insurance. He has exhausted all his savings and resources, and is basically to the point of selling everything he owns just to live (thank the Lord he is able to get his diabetic meds free through a program the maker has) There is no way he could make the trip to Mexico for a cheaper self pay, nor can he afford it. So here are some questions, has anyone ever heard of fund raisers or bike runs, maybe doctors willing to help or hospitals able to donate some of the expenses? This man is a hard worker, always was until he became disabled, and I know he could pay it back after some of the weight comes off, My husband and I would even be willing to make the commitment to pay what we could in the event that something went wrong, it's just that due to bad credit and lack of such an amount of money, we cant do it all at once. Any input would be greatly appreciated. And again, please, I am not asking for any hand outs so to speak, just input. ~HUGS~ Melissa

If Brian is not working, can he apply for Medicaid? There are some WLS places that do accept it. Also most all of them will let you do payment plans, even if he just pays a few dollars a month, they may accept it. Good Luck

Thank you for posting about him. I would urge Brian to try again for Medicaid and disability. There are lawyers that will take a case on contingency until he is approved. Also apply for medicaid as someone else posted. Tell him to be persistent with the government. They turn people down and hope you go away. it is like the insurance company also. they don't want to approve surgeries anymore either. Even if ended up with a part time job from home that would pay him enough to be a self pay or get insurance. He would only need it until then. Good luck and God Bless.
