Hello, My name is Sherry. I want to know if anyone has had plastic surgery or tummy tucks at or around there year anniversary for Gastric Bypass. I've heard that you need to be 18 months post-op and have a weight platue for 6 months for the insurances to cover you. I called my insurance co. (medical mutual super med plus)and they said they just need a pre determination from the surgeon. Has anyone encountered this issue? Any response would be appreciated! You can email at [email protected] Thanks, Sherry

I was at my six month checkup and my doctor also mentioned this, let me know as my surgeon feels with my hernia and at least 100 pound weight loss, I should be able to get this done at just after a year. My hernia is at this time as long as my incision and I may not be able to wait until 18 months.

Hi Sherry, I understand there may be a waiting period which would be the insurance companies rule only, not the surgeons. Did you call Med Mutual and ask them what the crieria is? Are you looking to have a tummy tuck covered or other? They will have a specific criteria for coverage. It is getting increasingly more difficult to get plastics covered. An example would be that for TT coverage you must have the a panniculus that drapes over the pubic area at the very least. I would call Med Mutual and monument what their specific criteria is to determine if you meet the guidelines. It is carved in stone, you either meet it or not. I am going self pay. Good luck Deb
