time released drugs
Okay, here's my opinion - every one is different, and timed release may work for some and not for others. My husband had surgery 4/03, and and was started on Wellbutrin SR a few months ago (sustained release). He was okay with once a day, but when it was increased to twice a day, he developed side effects. Our doc changed him to Wellbutrin XL once a day, and it has worked fine (XL is an even longer release medication). I don't take any timed release meds, so I can't say how I would react. I have seen this question many times on the Q&A board, and NO ONE has ever referred to any studies or cited any evidence that we cannot take timed release medications ever again. It really boils down to what your own surgeon says. Same with NSAIDs - my surgeon says it's okay to take ibuprofen or Vioxx if I need it. Others say no NSAIDs or aspirin products ever again. I think some things get repeated so often that it is taken as "gospel" with no real evidence to ever back it up. Personally, I think you should go by your own surgeon's recommendations, and if you have a timed or sustained release medication prescribed, give it a try and see what happens.
Michelle go by your doctor but also remember we do not absorb. Dosages may have to be changed etc. As far as NSAIDS My surgeon said NO when my PCP precribed them for recent back pain. I think there is medical eveidence out there that they lead to ulcers and not just in WLS patients. But go with what your surgeon says.
