What is involved in the Psych Eval?
My doctor just asked me about my eating habits, and my family and work.. She wanted know if they were supportive, and if i would have people to help me if needed...It was pretty harmless actually...She asked if i knew what the surgey entailed etc, and if i felt i would be able to handle the stress of not eating like i used to etc etc... Don't worry , it's just a formality and it really did help to talk , and have someone listen to me, and point out my strong points...Good luck
our support group just had a psychotherapist talk. Along with the food issues and talking about committment etc. He also uses the MMPI test. 563 questions. It is used to not so much weed out as to reinforce what you are saying to the therapist as being accurate. People have been known to 'fib' to their shrink and this kind of negates that. Since I was in therapy my therapist just submitted a letter about me but I also had the MMPI test. Don't take it when you are tired. If you skip a question, it can really screw the results up. I missed one and ended up taking it twice.
I had to take the mmpi test and the tree-person-house test. They both give basically the same results, but one is a 563 T/F thing and the other is a 2 minute drawing. The Dr. asked a lot about family history, When did I first start dieting, have I ever considered suicide, education, have i researched the surgery, (Didn't ask any details...I don't know if he never asks for details or assumed that since I have a BA I know how to research??) I was very nervous... of course, this was very obvious...when I finished the test I couldn't decide whether to go find the receptionist and let her know, or to wait until she checked...(what would it mean if I waited...what would it mean if I didn't ...I was that nervous)
I am very suspicious of psychologists...I am rather private...actually I have up walls of protection that I don't want people to get through.
Anyway, It turned out OK, and was actually very accurate. I was very surprised at how accurate a picture he got from those 567 questions...and even more surprised at how accurate a pic he got from the tree person house drawing.
Sorry this is so long.
