Hi,Befor surgery I enjoyed drinking a beer.I have heard some people are able to drink a beer after they have surgery. My question is how long do you have to wait to enjoy a beer, not get drunk, just a beer?

Greg; Unfortunately mt dr said no alcohol after surgery. DOn't know if that was for me or because the alcohol turns to sugar or what. But I didn't drink beer before sugery so that wasn't a real problem anyhow. I do know we become a cheap and fast drunk because of absorption problems.

My doctor also said no beer due to carbonation. If you want--do a little test, put a balloon on a bottle of beer (stretch it first) and shake--the carbonation stretches the balloon just like the stomach and the balloon stays that way. This is why I stay away from pop. I tried cranberry and vodka on vacation and found I wasn't a cheap or fast drunk since it has no effect on me whatsoever. So why drink it? You may find like me that you can no longer drink for effect at all. Good luck to you!

I have a friend who had the surgery and she is able drink beer and do shots. I think it varies from person to person. I do reccomend that you wait 6 months though just to allow yourself to get used to things.
