I am 38 years old 5"11 and weigh 279 lbs. My doctor has had me on metformin since Feb. up to 1500 MG took me off for a few weeks and started again. He said he has never had a patent take this med and not loose weight! Well guess what there is a first time for everything I have gained weight and I am on his great diet! I walked all summer long not just walked I worked at it didn't even loose a ounce. I am at a stand still. Every thing I do seems to cause me to gain weight. I really want to have this WLS but I don't think I can get a doctor to even talk to me. We my husband I are self employed and have no medical insurance. I am sure that if we saved for a few years maybe 10 we could get the money needed to do this but I also believe that by then I will be on insulin shots and it will be to late. I have seen many doctors and have heard to many times I need to stop eating or this is your cross to bare. This is no cross its a 150lb tomb stone. O.K. enough complaining . I need answers like where do I start who should I talk to and whats it going to cost us. I can no longer sell my oldest child she's 20 and would never agree to it. Just kidding. A few things you need to know about me I joke to try and make a bad situation lighter. The 2nd thing is my spelling is very bad. I am open to any and all comments. Please I need the light at the end of the tunnel or someone that has seen it.

I am sure there is still a market for older children. Since you don't have medical insurance, you will probably be a self pay. That means it can be expensive. There are several good doctors in the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Middletown area. Most doctors give a cash discount and the hospital will too. You will need to pay them up front. If you have a a house you may want to take a second mortgage out to pay for it unless you have a retirement account to borrow against. There are also surgeons from Mexico. I know a lot of people on the board have had success with them and they are cheaper. My surgeon's name id Dr. Moreira 513-281-1252. Hie does charge less if you are self pay. You might try to get some insurance plan. Check with www.humana.com to see if something is available. Don't worry about spelling it looked OK. As far as costs go, figure somewhere in the area of 20,000.00 for surgeon and hospital with discount depending upon stay. Another place to check are the Bariatric Treatment Centers. Don't know there web site but they have a lot of information available. Come check out our website www.wlsbutterflynetwork and post your question there also. We are a local group based in Cincinnati with members all over the country. I think we have some self pays in our group who might be able to better answer your question. Good Luck in your journey and feel free to email me anytime.

Treasa, I just want to tell you that I will say a prayer for you that you will find an answer on what to do soon. I am fortunate enough to have insurance, I am waiting for approval right now and let me tell you it's a long wait. Take care. KP
