Carbonated Beverages

I was told going into surgery that I should never drink pop or chew gum again after the surgery. Now I wonder why that restriction is there. I don't mind not chewing gum, but some carbonation to help burp once and a while would be nice. Monica

Monica, I was told the reason behind not having them anymore was, The gum will stay in your tummy for up to 7 years and take up valuable space for food and that the carbinated (sp) pops will make your pouch expand. I do have a pop once in a great great while, and usually only about 2-4 oz. IT's best if you can to let the pop sit and lose some of the bubbles before you drink it. Another words if you have to drink a pop drink it flat. I hope I help out or answered your question. Have a good day.
