I'm just going to roll over and die now if that's ok. Supposedly the ONLY surgeon that does accept Medicaid is now Dr. Spiers in Springfield Ohio. I was down there in March for his seminar, but because of travelling and distance *too much on the body travelling* and me being a single parent, it just makes it extremely hard to even consider him. Where am I supposed to stay between being released from the hospital until the first post-op visit? On the streets? Alone? and with who's money? ???? SO I have a question, to anyone that reads this, could you PLEASE call your surgeon and find out if he takes Ohio Medicaid and what his demands are of a patient, such as how many pre- and post- ops trips are neccessary to get the needed help from him. Thanks.... I'm going to go cry summore now.

I checked with Dr Moreira who is my surgeon. this is not going to make you happy. His scheduler said that Ohio Medicaid does not approve. Of course I am hoping you are already approved for this. Otherwise I would call them and find out who they recommend. Good Luck and I really hope I am wrong.

Vickie, I went with UC Surgeons, Dr. Gersin. I'm not sure if they take Medicare or not but it's worth giving them a call and asking. Don't give up. Something will come through. Could you change insurance company's or self pay? Just thoughts. I will keep you in my prayers that this will come through for you. Keep the faith..

Ohio Medicaid DOES approve WLS if it is medically neccessary. When I called them I was told I could even go out of state to have the surgery done, providing the surgeon would work with them. Meaning the Dr if out of state has to have an Ohio #. I would not even be on this site if there was no way they'd pay. There are several people that have been approved and have had surgery in the past year in Ohio that have Medicaid. I'm also going to be writing them to get more info. And OSU. I'm making some more calls on Monday, I have to wait it out over the weekend, as my sons' graduation party is top priority at this moment. My friday is shot, so Monday it'll be a fresh start.
