Celebrating an XL

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to take a moment to share the tiny victory I had this morning.  I was freezing my butt off in an airport and my flight was delayed.  I decided to see if I couldn't buy a sweatshirt.  The shop sold the ususal "normal people sizes" S, M, L & XL.  Well, for YEARS I would have turned away because the XL would not have fit and stores like that just don't carry womens 3X.

There I was -- holding the XL up to me -- doubtful it would fit.  The sales lady said, "Go ahead and try it on."  And I thought, "Wow.  She seems to think it will fit."  So I did and it really fit.  And not sausage-tight either.  It looked pretty good for a bright blue Milwaukee sweatshirt.

Most of the world wouldn't understand me celebrating wearing an XL, but I figured you guys would get it.  :-)

Thanks for getting it!  OMG!  A large is too big.  Wow.  How awesome!  I can't image myself fitting into medium sized sweat pants -- it's just been so long that it's hard to believe some day it might happen.   I bet Disney was a whole lot easier at a size large than it was for me the last time I went.

Hugs!!

congrats to you!!!  My surgery is on 7/19 and I'm so excited to see all these success stories :)
I can only imagine what you must have felt like buying a reg size shirt....I can't wait for that day myself.
A big one for me will be not having to ask for a seat belt extender on the plane...lol.
Again I'm so happy for you- keep up the good work.

Hi Tammie --

Thank you very much!  Good luck with your surgery.  It is exciting, isn't it?  I travel a lot on business and seat belt extenders had become a way of life.  I'd actually considered buying one of my own so I didn't have to keep asking for one on every flight.  It just sucks.  And yeah, I haven't needed one since surgery.  And I smile every time I can fasten those seat belts.

What surgery are you getting?  I'm so excited for you.  I am so happy I had my rny.  I wish you the best of luck (little pain, no dumping, and one success story after another).

Hugs!!

lamo....I actually considered slipping that seat belt extender in my pocketbook on several occasions...lol.  I am flying on the 15th....so hopefully that will be my last time having to use one. :)

Congratulations to all!  I can't believe I don't have to automatically jump to the far end of the rack looking for a 3X!  I'm into mostly XL now but have recently found some capris in large that fit great.  Even shoes fit better!   I'm grateful for thrift stores while going through size transitions.

I had the surgery (RNY) for the health benefits just as much as for the weight loss and thankfully I'm enjoying both!  It was the best decision I've ever made and can't believe it's been one year already.  But while saying that, I also know that it's only been one year and I have the rest of my life to continue the good trends I've learned.  It's not a cure but it sure helps!  And getting into smaller clothes is just one way to enjoy the path I've chosen!

Oh yeah!  I am loving my local big girls' consignment shop (I can't resist a shout out to Curvy Consignments).  Second hand clothes are keeping me from going broke.

Congrats on your success!!!  I keep wondering where I will be at 1 year out. . .
