Eating beets

Just wondering if anyone else has eaten beets, post surgery.  I ate a salad with beets, about 30 minutes later felt alittle sick, but an hour later ended up in the ER due to red urine.  Everyone thought I had blood in my urine due to fall the day before on the ice.  After tons of tests, the Dr. came in confused because the red in the urine was not blood,(thank God). The ER staff had to google the issue and found it was the result of eating BEETS!!!  Am I the only stooge this has happened to?  No one made this issue known to me.  What a humiliation.

Are there other foods that may cause similar effects?

Please let me know and save me from further embarrassment.

I eat beets a lot and have never had red urine from it, but I have heard that if you are low in something -- iron, I think-- it can happen.   I'm not aware of any other foods that discolor the urine.

I'm glad it was nothing serious.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Thanks so much for responding.  This whole thing was nerve racking.  Glad to hear you also eat beets.

I appreciate your help.

I never have had this problem with beets and I do eat a lot of them.  Be careful with asparagus as it will turn your urine green.  Guess you could save that for St. Patrick's Day!
